I am going to start a new tradition here on the blog: First Friday Updates. On the first Friday of every month, I will give an update on how our progress towards our goals is going. Are our savings on track, did we gain any new and important skills, is there anything exiting going on, etc? And don't forget that you can always follow our story (and catch up on the rest of the story if you are new) by clicking Follow the Dream.
During the winter months it often feels like we aren't making any progress towards our goals. Sure that number in the savings account keeps going up (and we continue to be right on track with our goals so far), but I start to get antsy without anything to do in the garden or without too many major projects to move us forward.
However, things are starting to look up for this month! We are finally back into the swing of things in the blogging world after getting back on my feet after losing grandpa. The blog really has been been a great project this winter.
And things are starting to happen in the garden as well. We are helping to lead the Group Garden effort at Kailash Ecovillage this year. We put in an early cover crop of peas in late January and they are just starting to take off. We have plant starts going in a greenhouse and we will have our first planting-out work-party within a month. I love combining gardening and getting to know our neighbors... so much fun! We will probably post more about this project in the near future.
We also getting our personal plot going. We have a new type of green onion to start a perenial onion patch this year. This weekend, I will be sowing my radishes and first lettuces.
Oh and the nettles are coming up... so foraging will commence soon as well! Spring is such a great time of year!
We are also busy starting to make some plans for this summer... including more homestead scouting trips. I am getting excited!
